have you ever had a miniature breed dog that couldn't push through the pet door?

my friend's dog can't use the pet door at my house. the dog is a maltese and about 2 kilos tops. Is it physically too demanding for him to push through? (he doesn't have a pet door at home).

my dog is a maltese too. could it be that the dog is afraid to go through? we practically had to force my dog through the dog door a couple of times before she would go through on her own. but even then she still prefers us opening the door for her.
