Copper bottom stainless steel cookware vs. Non-stick Anodized! Which is more practical?
I'm investing in cookware and I can't seem to make up my mind. I'm "learning" new cooking techniques and I KNOW that a good pot/pan makes a difference. However, I've never used a non-stick pan to fry an egg, etc. I have used stainless steel for other cooking though ... and there's a GREAT deal on a set like that @ Macys! Anyone out there have any recommendations? Thanks!
Honestly, don't buy a set of either. Buy specific pieces for what you cook on a regular basis. Stainless is best for searing and sauteeing. Nonstick is marvelously better at starchy foods.
A set may seem like a deal, but if two of the pans grow cobwebs in the cabinet, those savings are lost.
In any case, make sure that deal at Macy's is really a deal. For copper/stainless cookware, if the set is less than $400, it's likely poor quality. Each pan should feel heavy in your hand or it won't conduct heat well and will warp. There should be no plastic handles, and the handles should be riveted in, not attached with a screw.
A middle priced, yet fantastic quality stainless set is Henckel's or Calphalon TriPly. Both are sturdy, conduct heat evenly, and are well rated by consumer reports and Cook's illustrated.
