Estes Rocket help launch pad?

Ok,
I bought a Estes rocket. I havent set one off in like 2 years. Im 14 years old. When i went to set it off it kept not working. Then I realized the issue is the Launch pad thing. When i insert safety key (hard) as is says. I get no continuity light. If i return it i have to dissemble a lot of things. Can I just take 4 Dubble A betterys with a 15 foot wire with the aligator clips at end and use that just connect batteries to launch. Or should i return for new one? and when it launches do i need to hold on hard to the launch pad? or does the clip slide right off the engen? thanks

Check the batteries and make sure they are fresh. Also, make sure the clips on the ignitor are not touching each other or the metal deflector plate on the bottom of the launch pad. This will cause a short circuit. Sometimes, the key doesn't go in all the way, and no light comes on. Push down a bit on the key to make sure it is in all the way. Don't worry about holding anything down - when the motor ignites, it will push the igniter out of the nozzle, and the ignitor with the clips still attached will fall to the ground beneath the pad.

*edit* Do not just put batteries together with wires and expect good results. Misfires and accidental launches (not to mention electrical shocks) would be the norm in that situation. Get a launch controller that works!
