Shock Collar for Cats, Does this SOUND cruel to you?
I notice it in a magazine.I think it completely cruel and can't understand why anyone would come up with this idea, that a cat needs to be SHOCKED!!

Apparently for an invisible fence for cats.
I COULD NEVER EVER USE A SHOCK COLLAR ON CAT OR A DOG NEVER EVER!!! I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE THINK IT NOT CRUEL. IT IS CRUEL, WHAT HAPPENS IF THE COLLAR MALFUNCTIONS? AND GIVE MULTIPLE SHOCKS FOR NO REASON?
Sweetheart, the shock is not hot enough to hurt them. Just remind them to stay in the yard.
If you have a cat, you know that, unless they are raised from the itty bitty to stay in the house at all times, they beg to go outside, and it's cruel not to let them have this time of leisure. They love to find a sunny spot and catch butterflies or stalk the bird bath for a pigeon to chase.
But what happens if the cat leaves the yard? Other cats enter the picture--fights, etc. Dogs enter the picture...we live by a creek and we even have coyotes there. House cats are tender treats because they are fat and don't run fast. I lost a collared, chipped cat that way--he just disappeared, and a human would have gotten him back to us.
If you have a cat that must, for his own sanity, go outside a couple of times a day, a shock collar may not be too bad of an idea. A regular fence won't work, leashes don't work. This shock collar also has a tone to warn the cat. Soon the cat will realize the tone means he's coming close to the fence. He doesn't want to be shocked, so he backs away.
The safest idea I've heard for confining cats and letting them go outside at the same time.
