New bill in Cali about mandatory spay/neuter?
i am watching the news and i just saw that California is trying to pass a law that anyone who is found to have an un spayed/neutered dog or cat can be fined up to 500$. And people who do not spay/neuter have to have a special permet. I know this bill is being written in good nature, to prevent over crowding, euthanisia and unplanned pregnancies but do you think this will be helpful? I am thinking that the breeders will just go underground which could be harmful the the pets because then they could potentially not get the right vet care for their animals for fear of a large fine...i dont know, i am all for spaying and neutering for sure. but does anyone else think this could also be a bad thing? or maybe tell me why this is great...Just wondering!
Have you ever been to an animal shelter? Do you see how many animals there are there? Ask a worker how often the put animals down... most of them do it weekly, here in Tennessee they do it DAILY. If someone is breeding show quality animals, they actually care and would be fine to get registered. If they breed just to sell, they wouldn't be able to advertise to the public without getting licensed, so they would have to in order to stay open. Most breeders who would go underground already don't get proper vet care anywhy, they just seem to because they self-vaccinate. They may not have even vaccinated them in the first place, just told the buyer they did or put the vaccine stickers on record without going to the trouble of giving them. If they are paying for proper vet care then they will be able to pay for registeration. This should actually help shut down bad breeders because I'm sure there are regulations and inspections relating to the ability to register.
