Inground/Invisible Dog Fence Question...flags?
I'm looking into purchasing an inground dog containment system. I know that it comes with wire and flags to set up around the perimeter of the boundary. My question is..will I always have those flags up around my yard or can you take them down after a while??

The flags are a training tool. You do not leave them up all the time. The flags get taken down a little at a time as you train your dog.
The fence should come with instructions on the proper way to train your dog. And most invisible fence companies have a customer service number if you have questions.
Please take the time to properly train your dog to the fence. It will really help the dog learn how the system works and what the boundaries are.
And, no. An invisible fence does not hurt the dog. It puts out a shock that is similar to a static electric shock that you get when you touch metal. I've shocked myself on an underground fence because I wanted to see what my dog was feeling. It does not hurt - but you don't like it.
I use an Invisible Fence brand fence to back up my chain link fence. It takes both -the physical fence and the underground fence - to keep one of my dogs in. The other two dogs will stay in on just the underground fence- but #3 dog is the stubborn kind and it takes both. Even with proper fence training!
It's important that you keep fresh batteries in your collar. If the battery gets weak your dog may realize they can go through the fence.
My Invisible Fence brand fence was professionally installed and has a battery back up. That way, if the power goes out the fence will still work. With #3 dog, the battery back up is a must have. So, if one of your dogs is likely to be stubborn (or too smart) it may be worth it to purchase the battery back up if that is an option on the fence you are looking at.
