How to make my dog heel and stop pulling?
I have a 6 month old lab (black) and he just wont heel, i have been trying to teach him for well over a few months but he just doesnt get it. I have tried a few different ways but he just doesnt get it. He also pulls lots and is a pain in the backside. I thought walks were suppose to be enjoyable...
Who has a step by step method that is idiot proof and that works... i want a way of training him, not a special collar/lead/leash at the moment.
This is what I did (my aussie is very food driven, if yours is not I dont know if it will work as great for you)
After you do this for a few months, it will be your dogs default to walk with you, he will just do it without thinking. Make sure like her other video states, that you give the treat when the dog is NOT looking at you. Give the treat when he is looking around but still walking by you. Eventually the treats come less and less often. and after a couple months you can try to go without them (once your dog walks good for say the distance around an entire block or so.)
I dont think it is needed for the dog to walk in "heel" constantly. Then he has to focus focus focus on you and HE cant enjoy the walk and relax. As long as he walks WITH you, around you and is not pulling that should be good.
